The General Secretariat of the Organization of American States (GS/OAS), through the Department of Electoral Cooperation and Observation (DECO), develops initiatives to address the impact of disinformation on electoral processes and to strengthen the communication strategies of electoral institutions to combat this phenomenon.
Disinformation often aims to undermine citizens' confidence in democratic processes and institutions, amplify polarization, exacerbate political-electoral violence, spread hatred, impoverish public debate, among others.
Through technical cooperation, workshops and training are promoted for electoral bodies and civil society in order to exchange experiences, promote good practices and share lessons learned. Ultimately, this programme seeks to strengthen strategies and capacities to counteract disinformation in elections.
This project has been made possible thanks to a contribution from the Government of Canada.
