Brenda Santamaría
Chief of Section

The main function of the Electoral Observation Section is to develop and maintain a permanent and professional electoral observation service for member countries, based on continuous improvement and the consolidation of procedures and practices in this area. It organizes, coordinates, and deploys Electoral Observation Missions at the request of the Organization’s member states.

Since the OAS deployed its first Electoral Observation Mission to Costa Rica in 1962, the Organization has been present in 28 countries across the continent. Due to its technical rigor and professionalism, it has become one of the OAS's flagship programs, internationally recognized.

This section is part of the Department of Electoral Cooperation and Observation of the Secretariat for Strengthening Democracy (SSD).
